Marisa graduated from UNCW in 2012 with a degree in Philosophy & Religion. She began volunteering with Plastic Ocean Project in 2018 at beach cleanups and became a gala committee member for the annual For The Ocean Gala in 2023.

In 2024, she officially joined the team to manage POP memberships, research, write, and develop a grant funding strategy. She will lead the committee for the annual For The Ocean Gala Fundraiser in 2025.
